Baby update

Russell Georgi is as stubborn as both his parents can be. This does not bode well.

As of May 19th, he was estimated at a little over 8lbs. (For those keeping score, that is big for 37 weeks 5 days). But, from a much more immediately important standpoint, he was also still breech.

So, last Friday (May 23rd) we went in for an external cephalic version (ECV) which is basically where they push on my stomach from the outside to see if they can get him to move on the inside.

No luck.

He is still transverse breech, meaning that his head is on one side of my upper abdomen and his butt is on the other side of my upper abdomen. Note: neither of these are anywhere near my pelvis where they belong. This is a completely undeliverable position.

As a result, I am now officially scheduled for a c-section next Friday (June 6th) and barring a change in his position between now and then, will be Russell's birthday. It isn't my first choice, I admit. At this point however, it does appear to be the only choice.

The end, as they say, is in sight. At least I now have a date to look forward to.

Congrats again, Dr. Georgi

Well, the ceremonies are over, and it's official: Justin has his PhD. I am so very proud...and so very jealous!

Justin and I after the ceremony.

Check out the snazzy 50th anniversary red Stony Brook Robes! Stylin' huh? (Not that the regular blue ones are much better.)

Andy, Cathy, and Justin at the reception.

So, two posts in two days - you guys are getting spoiled...

By request - belly pic.

So, figuring I should reward the few people who keep up with my blog, here is a belly pic from Tuesday morning. Last time I measured I was 45 inches around.

Which - leads to a funny story -

This last weekend we were watching the Red Sox on tv, and because TBS knew they had a huge NE audience, they played a commercial for Mens Casual XL stores featuring Matt Light (Offensive Lineman for the Patriots). The commercial opens something to the effect of "I know how hard it can be to find casual and attractive clothing when you have a 42" waist..."

It made me pause a moment, and I turned to Justin and said, "um...my waist is larger than Matt Light's"

A rare moment of disturbing clarity about just how big I am.

Enjoy the pic.

Happy (slightly belated) Mommy's Day!

I hope all the mommy's out there had a Happy Mother's Day!

Having the most wonderful husband in the world meant that I got spoiled rotten all day despite not actually being a mommy yet (but I am so close, who's counting?) We had my favorite breakfast (crepes with fresh strawberries - YUM!) and I got to relax all day and read and watch baseball. I also, of course, called all my mommies, which is one of my favorite things to do.

Then Justin made me a fantastic dinner and we watched the Red Sox that night! Yay for national games! The only thing that could have made it better would have been if the Sox had actually won.

Next year I will actually have a Little One to share Mother's Day with. I am most excited.

Baby predictions

At my baby shower here on Long Island, each guest gave a prediction on Russell's birth date and weight. Since I am so terrible about losing things like tiny little pieces of papers, I thought I'd record them all here.

CJ May 23 7lbs 10oz
Kate May 28 8lbs 13 oz
Anne May 31 6lbs 9oz
Ashley June 3 9.6lbs
Sarah June 5 9lbs 4oz
Warda June 11 7lbs
Jessie June 13 7lbs 6oz
Gina June 13 8lbs 10oz
Suzanne June 15 8lbs 9oz
Saumya June 16 8lbs

Let's see who's closest! (If you made predictions at my Mass. baby shower, Kim still has those; I never got a chance to look at them) Good luck everyone!

Congratulations Dr. Justin Georgi!!

Yesterday Justin successfully defended his dissertation defense! He gave an excellent talk that was enjoyed by all. I couldn't be more proud of him.

Tonight we celebrate with friends.

If you get a chance, drop him a line and congratulate him.
